Benagil Cave

Learn how to visit this iconic sea cave safely and in accordance with new environmental regulations.

Benagil Cave, located on Portugal's Algarve coast, is one of the country's most stunning rock formations. Famous for its dome-shaped ceiling with a natural skylight, the cave is accessible only by sea. Popular ways to explore the cave include guided boat tours, kayaking, or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).

To protect this natural heritage, new regulations were implemented on July 30, 2024. Swimming or disembarking inside the cave is now prohibited, and all visits must be conducted with authorized guides.

For a safe and informative experience, it's recommended to book a tour with licensed operators who provide detailed insights into the cave's history and geology. Additionally, the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Algarve coast and passes over the top of the cave, making it an excellent option for hiking enthusiasts.
