The course had not yet been officially certified when this guide was updated. Runners should check the official Algarve Marathon route page for the final map, certification and any changes before race day.

Race Expo and bib collection

The Race Expo and event secretariat are scheduled to open at Tivoli Marina Vilamoura on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 December, from 10:00 to 19:00. Bring your registration confirmation and photographic identification when collecting your race pack.

The regulations allow limited race-day collection by the registered runner up to 30 minutes before the start. Collecting the bib at the Expo is nevertheless the more practical option, particularly with all events due to begin at 08:30.

Why stay in Vilamoura for the race?

As both the start and finish are at Vilamoura Marina, staying in Vilamoura can simplify the most important journey of the weekend. A well-located property may allow runners and supporters to walk to the event area, although the exact distance should always be checked before booking.

A villa or multi-bedroom apartment can be particularly useful for running clubs, groups of friends and families. Shared living space makes it easier to organise meals, prepare race equipment and relax together after the finish.

Vilamoura also gives supporters access to the Marina, restaurants, beaches and seafront walks while runners attend the Expo or prepare for the race. December is outside the main summer season, so check the opening times of individual restaurants and attractions in advance.

Transport and parking

Detailed parking areas, road restrictions and event transport arrangements had not yet been published when this article was updated. Check the official event information shortly before travelling and avoid assuming that normal access to the Marina will remain unchanged.

If your accommodation is within a comfortable walking distance of the start, walking may be the simplest option on race morning. Otherwise, allow extra time for diversions, traffic and parking.

Clever Details guests who need a hire car can receive 5% off with Movida Rent a Car using the code CLEVERDETAILS or the Clever Details Movida booking link.

How many nights should you book?

Two nights is the practical minimum for most participants, but three or four nights offer a more comfortable race weekend.

  1. Friday, 4 December: arrive in Vilamoura, settle in and collect the race pack.
  2. Saturday, 5 December: visit the Expo if needed, prepare equipment and keep the day relaxed.
  3. Sunday, 6 December: race day, followed by recovery and a relaxed evening in Vilamoura.
  4. Monday, 7 December: enjoy an unhurried breakfast or recovery walk before travelling home.

Runners travelling from abroad may prefer to arrive on Thursday. This leaves more time for flight delays, familiarisation with the event area and a short pre-race run.
